Essential Oil vs. Fragrance Oil – What is the difference?

In this blog i will tell you all about fragrances. Asking about the difference between pure essential oils and fragrance oils. In conclusion, it is a little like asking what the difference is between natural and synthetic products. Both may have their uses and drawbacks. Where to spray perfume: Spray on pulse points, décolleté, and behind the knees. Spritz or dab, but don’t rub; rubbing breaks down the scent molecule and may cause it to fade faster. Synthetic products can be cheaper to produce.

But they are more convenient (for example polyester fabric). Synthetic products may have drawbacks such as added chemicals and environmental hazard. Natural products might have better quality in them(for example wool). Consumer can have difficulties to obtain it in large quantities. Therefore, it is not as palatable to the consumer. What Are Essential Oils?

Aromatherapy essential oils are naturally occurring substances. Aromatherapy essential oils found in different parts of plants. Such as, the blossom, fruit, leaf, stem, bark, wood or resin. Both hydrosol and essential oils have a complex procedure. They are produced through a complicated and often expensive process of steam distillation or solvent extraction.

Their are between 50 to 500 different naturally occurring chemicals in each essential oil. These naturally occurring chemicals can have both positive and negative effects. For example, their are antiseptic and astringent properties in cinnamon essential oil yet it is highly irritating to the skin and caution must be taken.

What Are Essential Oils Used For?

In aromatherapy pure essential oils are used in a way to positively affect physical, emotional and mental health. The body ingests them through skin(via massage or bath).

They also enter the body through the olfactory system (via a diffuser or humidifier).  To enhance mood, to relieve symptoms such as pain, fatigue or inflammation, or to kill germs essential oils may be used.

What Are Fragrance Oils?

Fragrance oils, aromatic oils or perfume oils as they are sometimes called manufactured scents. They are artificially created fragrances and they contain artificial substances. They are specifically designed to mimic the scent of a natural product (such as coffee fragrance oil).

Fragrance oils are created to invoke a feeling (for example “spring rain”). Fragrance oils are quite inexpensive. But the range of scents is enormous.

What Are Fragrance Oils Used For?

Perfumes, cosmetics and flavorings are manufactured primarily using fragrance oils. Fragrance oils are used to enhance the smell of soaps and candles. While some soap and candle makers may use essential oils. But due to more complex blending procedure. Fragrance oil are not as commonly used for these purposes. The concentration of a perfume is the percentage of pure fragrance oil to stabilizing ingredients, which determines lasting power

Lavender Essential Oil vs Lavender Fragrance Oil

While scientists can duplicate the fragrance of essential oils. They have so far been unable to duplicate the benefits. Using Lavender as an example,  Lavender fragrance oils are in abundance on the market. All of these fragrance oils smell like lavender.

And they consistently smell the same. Their smell is long lasting. Soaps, perfumes, cosmetics and candles are great for fragrance but they have no other benefit.

Lavender essential oil, on the other hand, offers the fresh aroma of Lavender plus a great deal of healing properties. Symptoms such as coughs, insomnia, hyperactivity, arthritis, muscle aches, rheumatism, acne, sunburn, wounds, insect bites, burns and irritability may be cured using Lavender essential oil.

How to Use Lavender Essential Oil

To enjoy the healing benefits of lavender essential oil there are many ways you can use it. Add it to a spray bottle or diffuser and cleanse the home or office. Add it to a bath to relax and unwind. For bruises, aching muscles and sore joints use it on a compress . Add it to skincare products, shampoo and body lotions.

Both essential oils and fragrance oils have their uses. Use essential oils for their healing and therapeutic benefits. Use fragrance oils for perfuming purposes.
